She made her debut as actor in 1997 at age 13. In 1997, she made her debut on stage as an actor at age 13. After taking several courses and working as a background actor for Canadian programs like Road to Avonlea or Harriet the Spy she got her voice on the Canadian kids horror anthology Goosebumps. There were commercials too as and guest appearances in movies like Mutant X and Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story. Goosebumps was also aspect of her professional career. Two years later, Vandervoort played her debut movie, The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode, and Isla Fisher. Vandervoort was cast as Smallville, a serial drama for The CW. She is Clark Kent's Kryptonian "Kara Kent" as the character who is to turn into Supergirl. The season 7 episode was the first time she became a regular on the series. She was featured in "Bloodline" which was the eighth season's episode. The show returned to Smallville for two additional episodes throughout the last season, which was also her tenth. After The CW and Smallville, Vandervoort shot the follow-up to feature film Into the Blue titled Into the Blue 2: The Reef. The Jazzman is her third independent film. It also features in a Canadian cast, including Michael Ironside, who appeared in two episodes of the V miniseries and the regular 1984 V series.
